BACK TO WORDS FROM WARFLOWER
Feb 19, 2026
like, I know my Whole Thing is being present in the moment but you can't "just live for today" and also have a refrigerator where you live.
so although my mind is always weighted toward out current hour (especially post-2020), it's only human to have your thoughts wander into the future.
besides, anyone with no consideration at all for tomorrow is fn dangerous.
that's why I woke up today with tomorrow's set at Sanctuary on my mind.
decided what I was gonna wear early: it's Uprising History Month so definitely another of the many fluorescent band tees I've crafted up...every time I do the logo I congratulate myself on going with something easy enough to finger paint.
maybe another coat of glow-in-the-dark on the trim, gotta take full advantage of all those blacklights up there.
I love playing there man.
thing you should understand about Sanctuary is that it brands itself an "antiracist, antifascist" space, which is to bring to the forefront one of the dominant concepts of my thinking...you can't just dislike the people that hate people you love, you must stand, speak, and act against them.
wanna make this clear in the words of Kurt Cobain:
"If any of you, in any way, hate homosexuals, people of a different color or women, please do this one favor for us — leave us the fuck alone. Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records."
it is up to us to make these shriveled individuals feel unwelcome in our spaces; you must shun them from your life absolutely.
ain't no beers and BBQ with bigots in my everyday life, and it's refreshing to have a venue openly reject their presence.
no phobes.
no fash.
no exceptions. fuck you, get out, right now.
the brass knucks ain't just mic decor.
makes me feel so powerful to play in a place that will fully back me up in enacting my belief system during a demonstration.
definitely perform better when the chains are off...when I can "howl at the moon, go hard for the plot."
it's where Gaby shines the brightest too...9pm start time puts the Sun firmly elsewhere in the Pacific, so the hypnotic glow of her spinning flames gets all the amazement it deserves...hell I find myself watching her sometimes!
there are definitely moments in there, when the bubble machine is blasting amid a circular inferno, Zi piercing the night sky with a high note while the band shakes the Earth under my feet, where I'm as much part of the audience as anyone else.
for a few moments every week, I have the easiest job in the world...I vibe out with The Pleasant Uprising under the stars.
Sanctuary is OUR HOUSE.
see, people think confidence just comes from betwixt the buttcheeks, like you can just stroll into any situation feeling good about yourself and somehow that's enough.
what a silly-ass thing to have in your head.
for me, confidence boils down to being able to imagine a positive result from the decisions you make.
about knowing that you are the right person in the right place at the right time...or at least, believing it enough to show up in the first place.
showing up ain't always easy...but it's the first step to success.
whenever I step on that stage at Sanctuary, I am rock-solid confident it's gonna be a colorful evening...as another great man once said, "we gonna tear the roof off the muthasucka."
only thing missing from guaranteed greatness tomorrow is youyesyou.
all power to The People.
